Title: Complete Newbie
Post by: djerniehoule on December 03, 2020, 02:21:48 PM
Hello,

I am completely new at RadioDJ. I tried for hours yesterday, but could not get the new version to work on my Windows 7 machine. I finally found a way to make it working using version 1.8.2.0 - I have some questions and hoping someone can explain in "newbie" terms. I appreciate any assistance...

1. Is it possible for me to use a newer version of RadioDJ? If so how?
2. When creating rotations, is there a general rule of thumb at how many tracks per rotation should be added? I was not sure if each entry represents a song? like one hour would be about 20 entries. I tried one and that works, and adds songs as it goes. I am just not sure how to approach this?
3. Is there a working demo for the online request system? I am not sure how to set that up.
4. I am always adding music to my folders, and updating. Does RadioDJ automatically recognize the new files, or is there a way to manually refresh?

You can create rotations as long or as short as you need Versions prior to the Beta 2020 a rotation would load double the tracks into the rotation with the 2020 bet a you can control the amount of tracks in the queue

e.g: 6 lines in rotation RadioDJ would load 12 entries into the playlist

I'm not sure where there is  working request system for you to test maybe someone will give you a link.

IMHO, stick with 1.8.2. It has lots of useful plugins that work

You can have as may tracks as you want in the rotation. I think I have about 40 or 50 in mine, including station ID, commercials, jingles, etc.

Are you adding songs to the rotation or song types?

The online request system is a little tricky to get up and running because your website has to have access to the computer running RadioDJ but there are instructions here in the forums to get it running.

When you add new music files to your folders you always have to manually import them. Either as a track or folder import. When you import RadioDJ takes all the info from the tag and adds it to your database and it extracts the album art and puts it into the album art folder

I appreciate your answers guys, ok so to be clear on the rotations. Does each entry/item equal a song, jingle, or whatever? I did not know if I had to put 20 or so to make an hour? I noticed if I only put one it will keep playing music, and as it goes it'll add a new song. I am trying to find the best way way to configure.

Here is what I am trying to do...

Example: I want to have a standard rotation (mix of songs) play from 6am to 8am daily with a jingle played every 30 mins. Then at 8am, it'll switch to Jazz 8am to 9am with a jingle every 30, and so on through the day...

What is the best way to build this?

You can set up an event to play the Jingle at 30 minutes past... Have a play around with events

You can also use events to change the rotations at a set time and you can program them from the categories/Subcategories you have placed teh files in.

Does this help any> https://djgarybaldy.blogspot.com/2020/08/radiodj-track-rotations-autodj-selector.html (https://djgarybaldy.blogspot.com/2020/08/radiodj-track-rotations-autodj-selector.html)

The short answer is YES

There are lots of options when setting up your rotation, year, type of music, most played, least played, etc

Set it up with what you want and as DJ Garybaldy said, you can change the rotations with an event.

And if you want something (i.e. a jingle) played at a specific time you have to set it up as an event, not in the rotation

Thank you, I watched a bunch last night.. Question regarding rotations..

Example: I have a category set for rotations.. I put 10 entries in there. I schedule it 4pm to 5pm... It seems to end prior to 5pm, and the next schedule starts pre-mature when it should start at 5pm...
