Title: Lots of New Broadcasters
Post by: DJ Garybaldy on April 02, 2020, 04:53:17 PM
Just going on the stats for my website this past couple of weeks it appears there are a lot of people wanting to start internet radio stations.

I guess there are WORSE things people could be doing in a lockdown situation (like we have in the UK at the moment)

7 days into my quarantine and i haven't gone crazy (YET) finding new things to do all day long.

Having been into internet radio 20 odd years its always heart warming to see someone new running a station for their first time.

But its a crowded market place these days...

I've recently joined the forum looking to learn more about how to get an internet broadcasting set up going for a friend of mine that has been doing DJ work for years. Most places he does DJ work for have closed up since the lockdown orders came out thus shutting down the great music he spreads.

What's the best way to really get set up for Internet broadcasting?

What's a good streaming service to use with RadioDJ?

A free one is preferable.

Theres that many free streaming services available these days that's It's impossible to say which ones good and which ones bad.

I'm currently trialling zeno.fm haven't noticed any showstoppers so far.

Zeno.FM sounds interesting. I watched a YouTube video and it seems really straightforward. Are you using RadioDJ with it or are you using the tools they provide?

Me I'm using RadioDJ to handle the automation music/jingles then I have Sound Empire caster streaming out to Zeno FM's servers it was pretty straight forward to setup (for me anyway)

I've connected with the Icecast settings rather than the SC2 ones they give you as a fallback as I couldn't get the encoder to connect that way.

The stream has dropped a couple of times that I'm aware of but on the whole seems better than some other free radio streaming services.

How do you connect RadioDJ to Sound Empire caster? I see that setting up the streaming from SE Caster to Zeno FM, but I can't figure out how RadioDJ is connected.

Can you elaborate for a NB?

The site is still working. There are parts of it being updated, but you can still get all the information you need. Jhonny has done a great job keeping this site updated and accurate.

Has anyone ran into Ads being run on Zeno? I set up a site about a week ago and had been enjoying ad free music that I uploaded and then all of the sudden the ads started up. In many cases the amount of ads was drowning out the music and even repeating multiple times.

I wonder if just using the servers to broadcast and not their media players would change that? The ads is really putting a negative effect on the number of listeners.

If using the route DJ Gary put out would be the better method. Thoughts?

Did anyone else get the mail from ZenoFM yesterday. Apologising for issues on the platform owing to a lot of new sign ups over this past couple of weeks.

In these past few weeks, we have received a record number of new stations and listeners. This unprecedented traffic has caused some technical issues which you may be aware of (eg: delays, cuts in streaming.) Our team is working hard to monitor and fix these issues.
Its always good to see lots of people starting broadcasting but at the same time could ZenoFM become a victim of its own success? I hope they get the technical stuff sorted as I had noticed my stream dropping out the other day.

their business model is stupid.
of course large numbers of newbies will go there bcuz it's free / ad supported.
they won't be able to keep up.
you get what you pay for.
full stop.

Zeno Fm is a good way to see the listener's response. I had 2 stations, one with oldies and one with chill out music.
The oldie station is doing well, the other is a disaster an i closed it.
The disadvantage with Zeno Fm, one cannot search for a station by genre.

https://wordpress.org/plugins/streamcast/ (https://wordpress.org/plugins/streamcast/)

I've just installed it put in a simple shortcode with my stream link and its working on my website (on a private page)

Zeno has been a good place to start for a newbie, but their management of ads is really terrible. Ads just cut in over a song and at repeating times. We've tried get improvements from the staff, but I get the impression its run by 4 people.

We've been streaming 24/7 for the past 6 weeks and it's ok with listeners from around the country, but need to make a change to something better. Anyone got a suggestion for what is a good step up?

Live 365 works very well for me. The commercial overlays work right in where they're supposed to be, tech support is great, and I like the way my station sounds.

I stream live with RDJ using Rocket Broadcaster Pro to L365. It costs me $59 a month but that's a lot less than I'd spend doing music clearance on my own.

Live 365 looks intriguing. Seems a bit spendy compared with other sites. What's the down side?

Anyone other sites that look good?

Does anyone have experience with Citrus3? I see that it works great with Radio DJ. If anyone has any insights I'd like to hear more.
