Title: So I upgraded the playout machine.
Post by: DJ Garybaldy on May 07, 2020, 02:47:39 PM
Over the past couple of weeks I've been computer shopping on eBay trying to find a PC with decent specs as I had a bit of spare cash.

I found one but the seller couldn't do the advertised RAM, So tried another seller anyway the long and short of it is i now have RadioDJ playing out on a Machine with 32GB RAM i5 Processor 3.9Ghz (refurbished) 240GB SSD

Thing is I picked it up DIRT CHEAP £287 was all I paid for it which is nearly £100 less than what i paid for an AMD tower with 16GB a few years back.

IF you're still running an OLD machine with Windows XP now might be a good time to upgrade that computer.  Your studio and radio stream will thank you for it.

Computers are way cheaper now than the £1000 I paid for my first PC with 512MB RAM in 2001

LOL, back in 1991 I spent $3,000 on a pc with technology slower than what you find in a raspberry pie today.

For sure, I remember the very first hard drive I ever bought, cant remember how long ago it was but it was a 4 MB that's right 4 MB and it was the biggest you could buy at the time.  It cost $4000.00  spent my income tax return on it that year.

Those were the days  :bash:

OMG has it really been a year since I bought the 32GB machine....

Its been switched on nightly for the past 12 months playing music in my bedroom (Can't sleep in a quiet room)

The Database & RDJ hasn't freaked out in all that time. I've not had to restore the DB since I installed it.

Even on a powerful computer RadioDJ works better than some automation solutions out there.
