Smart Events

"Smart timing" skipps events...
I have some strange effects when updating the "smart timing" value. It starts skipping the events with smart timing enabled.
I have found, so far, that to restart RadioDJ (2.0.0.1) does fix the problem.
Is this a bug?

Marius

Can you provide more details? Did you compared the number of runned events vs the logs from Windows events viewer?

How can I get that information?

All I see is that the event bar moves to the next upcoming event some seconds before it should have and nothing happens with the event that should have started.

Marius

First, go to Events Viewer to see if any errors are generated by RadioDJ (on windows 10 type in search field "event viewer") and in the new window select from the left menu the Windows Logs and then Application. Now on right list search for errors generated by RadioDJ.

I do find a lots of ESENT messages in the source field. I can find some RadioDJ instances, but nothing that would tell me that there were something wrong.

I am trying to recreate the bugs, but today, I am not able to it.
Maybe the trouble had some other reason...
We run it on several computers in our system, and one in the studio. They all got the problem, but after a restart they all work again.
I am thinking that it was a lokal error and not a RadioDJ bug.

Thanks anyway!

Great software!

One other question...
Would it be wise to use the "Store Settings in Database" function when you run the software on more than one computer?

I really want to know more about that!

IF you are not planning to access/modify those settings via the internet, i don't recommend storing them in the database.

It's settled. I will not use the server. It also makes it easier to keep the varies computers separate as we use them to make playlists and prelisten.
I need to express, once again, how much I like this software. It really serves my needs.
I have written many scripts that makes our programming easier. We have set up many of our shows as "File by date". And therefore, writing a php script checking if a file is properly formated and located in the right folder according to the schedule, we only have on php web-page to check every day to see if "all is well".

So smart timing of events does indeed seem to have a repeating problem/issue.  I did do a restart of RDJ once, which seemed to have things work ok, but just for a short time.

Here is the scenario.

I have a [TOH news] event that is smart timed.  Setting is for 90second buffer.
Prior to the top of the hour, the event shows to be successfully waiting and smart time sync'd with the current playing track (eg. event scheduled for 7:00.00pm but song going overtime so shows countdown of event adjusted to 7:01.06pm

However... at 7pm that event is completely cleared and the next event is cued up (an event that is set to happen at 7.10pm but is also smart timed)  So when 7:01.06 arrives, the scheduled News event does not happen.

Any fix on the way that I should be aware of?  Have I provided enough information?

Same issue over here as Rob Ashcroft mentioned.

Thought it had something to do with the Event Actions, but that's not the problem.

For now don't use them. It's complicated what happens there and i might need some time to figure out a better approach.

Thanks Marius. This should be highlighted. Something strange happened to me too while testing with smart events. The smart event disappeared before 40 seconds (and that's the buffer time I had set), but just with one event, others work.

Quick question for those having issues with Smart Timing Events.  Has that been with events carried over from v1.8 that then you just set to smart timing, or were they newly created events?  I can't quite recall mine, but they may have been old events that I updated.  Not sure if there's any pattern in that?

For now though Marius I am following your advice and just reverting the events to not using smart timing.

Cheers

I only created new events with Smart Timing. So I don't know if the events from v1.8 act differently.

I followed Marius advice and switched Smart Timing off. Events work fine now (but the Smart Timing events are really great, so I think it is just a matter of time that Marius will solve this).

At first I tried Smart Time with old events build into V1.8.2, the problem comes out only to one event so I made that event new. It disappears, as I explained, all the same.
