Issue with Internet Stream for news

Hi everybody!
I'm Hans from Hamburg, Germany, using Radio DJ for many years now (and really happy about the software and its development over the years).

A few days ago I've imported files. I must have chosen the wrong category and with this action deleted files. Suddenly I've had the news jingle with the news missing and the news bed playing while the Top of the Hour jingle and the first song of the playlist started on top of it. I looked for the reason and found out there was no news file anymore.

Here's how everything worked great for quite a long time: For the Top of the Hour news I had set up a file of the type "Internet stream", which was loaded by an event (play news jingle and bed, play news file, play TOH jingle). The news are FSN 30 second headlines, which is an mp3 file (with always the same URL and they change the content after a few hours).

I remember I had problems setting up that file back then because RadioDJ wouldn't do what I wanted it to do but then, out of the blue, the file was there and everything worked just fine. Now I am having the same problem again - setting up the file I must be doing something wrong but I just can't figure out what it is.

Here's what I do to create that track:
- open "tools"
- choose "track import"
- get a message "you cannot move tracks in this category because it doesn't have any subcategory!" which I get every time (and don't understand what the message tries to tell me), so I blindly hit OK  :)
- in the track import window I choose my category "News" with the subcategory "FSN World News", change track type to "Internet Stream", type in the URL, hit the "play"-button and it plays the news (which means the file can be accessed and there shouldn't be a problem with the network)
- when I hit the "validate" button nothing happens (but since background of the URL box is green i figure that everything is ok)
- I change to "Details"-tab and add title and artist
- and then i hit the "Import" button.

With this action, the boxes are emptied and everything looks like it did in the first step. I close the windows, go to the title search and find... nothing.

I can do this over and over again with no result. If I import a regular file (mp3 on harddisk), the import works just fine.

I really hope there's somebody out there who can help. Maybe I am missing a step, maybe I have to wait for the moon to shine, say "Fake News" seven times and then hit the "Import" button. Maybe my computer has other issues. Right now I am clueless...

Looking forward to any response and advice,

Hans

@Randy
Thanks for the advice. I checked on my computer:

Track import by default opens with
- category field set to "News"
- sub category field set to "FSN World News"
- genre "no genre found"
- track type "Music"
and the rest left blank

That's why the error message makes no sense to me...

@plauri: Randy and I were talking about the error message by default. Default value is "Music" (which I later switch to "Internet Stream").

Maybe screenshots will make things clearer...

- I open "Configuration" by clicking the button with the wrench symbol
- click on "Track Import"
- and get this error message:

I hit the OK button and get this default window:

I fill the boxes with these values to create a News file:

(When I press the blue "play" button the current news are being played)
(When I press the button with the red check mark, nothing happens)

Switch to the details tab and fill artist and title boxes:

Hit the "Import" button and the window looks like this again:

And finally: When search for a track named FSN, there are zero results.

You have to go under "Details" and write the correct name, in your case FSN. At the moment you have FSN only as subcategory

Edit: Sorry, too many pictures. I didn't see you have already done this.

Maybe a database problem?

Optimized the database successfully, Radio DJ otherwise works just fine. How can I find out if there is a database problem?
(Adding other tracks works just fine, that's why I'm wondering if I am missing something rather than suspecting a database problem.)

Hi Hans,
I have used FSN in the past and had no serious problems either.  I can't see from this thread or missed it what version you are currently running.  Have you done any of the following?

Firstly, I've noticed that when you select the file type (In your case internet Stream) and have filled in the URL and then move tabs to details etc.  Make sure you go back to the first Tab BEFORE importing making sure the File Type is what you wanted.  Sometimes RadioDJ puts file type back to "Music".  Just change it back to internet stream and then hit Import.

Secondly, I used FSN a few years ago with the file type "Internet Stream" and had issues with it not playing with time outs and RadioDJ moving on to avoid time outs. (internet lag in my case)  So I downloaded the FSN file and called it FSN Report (or whatever) and the File Type as VDF   Variable Duration file and just kept replacing it in the folder and no problems.
I had it play with an intro with bed and then FSN Variable Duration File with OVERLAY [Ticked} and had an outro and was fine until a stopped using FSN.

Thirdly, One of the recent betas (Can't remember which now) had an issue with URL Streams not firing correctly.

Hope something might lead you to a solution.

Cheers

@Vanlen Thanks for your answer! Version is 2.0.0.5

1. Did as you say, returning to first tab it still is "Internet Stream". As I recall I've always hit the Import-button from the first tab (to be sure). Just tried it: Nope, file is not being created.

2. That could be Plan B. Is there a software I can program to automatically download a file from a fixed URL?

3. This version worked great with the Internet Stream for months until I deleted the file. Problem is only that I can't create a new file.

Does anybody here have 2.0.0.5 running and can help me by doing exactly what I do to see if a file is created on your computer? If so, my computer is the problem and maybe I need to reinstall RadioDJ or something. Should be an easy task and only take 2-3 minutes of your time. I would GREATLY appreciate your help.  :-*

Thanks,
Hans
