Events play from file

It would be good if we could just select the file location instead of having to insert them has a track. This would be ideal for syndicated shows that you have to download each week and only play once.

I don't understand your request. For a syndicated show I import the track only once, then use VDF and copy every week the show in the selected folder.

Thats ok if the file name stays the same but dont work if they change the file name each week which most of ours do because they include the date

how do you download? manually or automated?

if manual, can you just rename the file so it has the same name each wk?

if automated, can you write a windows script to rename the file to whatever you need it to be?

With our old system I would

download the show

Open up the playout software

To manager where you put timed events on

Then instead of having to insert the file has a track or use any scripts

Select file url. This is where id select the file I downloaded on to my desktop or download folder

Click done.

if you manually download the file, then just name the file being saved with the same name, so RadioDJ will open it as VDF

djclewes may I make a suggestion. In your reply #2 you mentioned
Thats ok if the file name stays the same but dont work if they change the file name each week which most of ours do because they include the date

You could just import the file by date. Two links below to give you details, but for me it was like this.. I have a daily two minute short that I download once a month. I imported file once using today's date.

Go to tools > import file in RadioDJ navigate to your directory find the file with today's date. My case it is JT_2018_10_13.mp3. Add all your details, then make sure you go to comments tab and add JT_yyyy_MM_dd.

Then create your event to load track with the date mask JT_yyyy_MM_dd.

Make sure the new programs are downloaded in advance manually or create a php or other script to more automate and have Windows to call it or even radioDJ to call php.exe c:/script.php or whatever.  Just download before airtime.

Please read more on file by date before you follow my instructions..

I use the "Newest from Folder" Track Type setting so I don't have to worry about the filename. My programs/content gets downloaded automatically using batch files I create so the whole process is completely automated.

Basically you can play a file in events once without having to install it as a track.
