Sweepers for particular Artists

Hi again,
I'm wondering if this is possible in RDJ?
So what I want to do is record  a sweeper to play at the start of a particular artists track, and to do that everytime that track gets played on AutoDJ.
I recorded one wav file and assigned that to a particular track, after having set the intro cue and ticked the overlay box , and also checking that my rotation was set for sweepers at the start of the music tracks.
RDJ appears to assign this sweeper to the start of all music tracks, i'm a newbie but what am I doing wrong?
Please help me to get this working, otherwise tell me it's not possible.
Thanks in advance

Jhonny

Yes it can.

Make the sweeper.

Select the track in the search screen edit the track select the tab sweepers select the sweeper in the left screen transport too the right screen and save.
it only works in autodj.
If the sweeper is longer than the intro time it's start at the start point. (if I am right)

I have imported two sweepers (as overlay files), I've not yet assigned them to any tracks or set the cue points.
As you can see, already they are playing on every music track on AutoDJ.
Attached are some screenshots  in case you can see an obvious problem?

I'm not sure how overlay sweepers are used.  :-[
I thought that overlay files are used for a different purpose.
Can not confirm this yet deny whether they can be used in your way.

Maybe someone else knows more about this.

Thanks Jhonny,
I'm loving RadioDJ but finding it really hard to find comprehensive instructions on the sweeper/voice tracking aspect of the program.

stevewa

Your rotation is selecting those 2 sweepers. Turn off that option in the rotation editor. Attach intro sweepers to the specific track.

bluesbeat

Thank you. So no sweepers set in the rotation?
One of the problems I'm finding is there seems no way to verify that the sweeper is actually set properly, as if you drag it to the list to play you won't hear it anyway.. or is there a way to check it?

stevewa

QuoteI've not yet assigned them to any tracks or set the cue points.

If you haven't set the cue points, the sweeper will never play. The intro cue point needs to be set, and have a duration longer than the intro, so the sweeper will fit inside the intro.

get the length of a sweeper.
edit cue of a track, set intro longer than length of sweeper.
put track in playlist, drag sweeper and drop on that track.
it should show the sweeper as overlay, and play the track, and the sweeper on top of the intro of the track.

bluesbeat

thank you stevewa, I like your straight forward instructions. I take it that putting it into the playlist allows me to hear the end result, and that it will play the same when it is chosen by AutoDJ? cheers.

stevewa

Yes
Autodj just automatically generates a playlist.
Automation automatically plays the next file in the playlist.
If next file has sweeper attached it will play it

Hi Stevewa,
I had no luck dragging the sweeper onto the music track, but I did have luck clicking on the sweeper column and doing the assignment there, then set the trigger point as Start. I created a playlist and rotation called test so I can listen to the result.  :)

put track in playlist, drag sweeper and drop on that track.

To answer Jhonny question: I never used sweepers as overlay (and it's five years I'm putting sweepers into my songs) and they work like a charm. Of course I have songs normalised at -3db, sweeper volume is a bit higher.

What is the difference between how an overlay file works to a non overlay file?

Also what is the difference between a sweeper file and a VT?
Is it possible to assign either of these type of tracks so they play before the music track starts?

An overlay file works for example as a bed for the news (under the spoken news), a non overlay files works like a song. I don't have experience about VT.
