I would like to change some files from wav to MP3 fast as I have some to change.  I use Audacity which is good and I need something that will work fast or to be showed how to do it fast.

David.

They also have a free FLAC to mp3 converter that works quite well

Well David, if i may give you an advice, don't do that. WAV is lossless and yeah it eats up storage but on the other hand, storage isn't that costly anymore.
Running 3 editions V1.8.2 at www.salto.nl and v1.8.2 at radio251.nl. ( NOW with 2 live studio's! )

I have been using XRECODE software for this purpose for more than 10 years. You can convert from any format to anything and set everything. I convert my loss-free albums to mp3 192kb / s because my radio stream runs in this standard. I know this is a drop in quality, but unfortunately I can't service StereoTool with a 6-core processor when I'm making serious sound settings. Therefore, I thought I might spare the processor if the input and output formats are the same. even so, it took the most time to set the buffer values so that the end result was a continuous clean stream.
However, if someone would confirm professionally and justify that my logic is wrong, I would thank you. Because the goal should be the same for everyone, the cleanest and most stable stream possible.

FliFlac is a light non-installed converter which is simple to use and free.

I used Clementine to convert mp3s into wav files for my DAV ... I'm sure it could go the other way too ...

Just remember that converting an existing mp3 file to the wav (or flac) format is not going to give your music file better quality.  The Mp3 format uses what's known as lossy compression technology to render the song onto a file. Wav or flac formats use lossless technology.

The advantage of the mp3 file format is the file size is about 75% smaller than if you put it on a wav or flac file.  The disadvantage is a loss of audio quality and a "smearing" of some sounds.  Although quality loss is not as evident if you record an mp3 at the highest bit rate (320 kbit), using a good codec and encoder.

But as mentioned earlier, since storage space is getting so cheap, just make new recordings using a lossless format like flac.  You're not compromising the audio quality by originally recording in the flac/wav format.

However, converting an existing mp3 (lossy) file to a wav or flac (lossless) file is not going to improve quality.  It's just capturing that original lossy mp3 file in a new file that will be 75% larger in file size when converted to wav/flac!
