Can anyone recommend a piece of software that preferably free that rips CD's and doesn't come riddled with spyware/bloatware etc...

Its been a long time since I last had to rip a disc. Found a load  of DooWop CD's I'd completely forgotten about.

CDex used to be my goto CD ripper since it was quick and beautiful (basic). However, recently the CDDB database which it used to populate album, artist, title info for the tracks, has gone kapput.

I switched over to Exact Audio Copy (EAC). There's a learning curve with it, but it does import the CD info from a different database (you just have to get it all configured correctly). EAC has been recommended in boards of the high-fi community for years.

I've used ashampoo for hundreds of CDs.

Occasionally I will run across a disk from a "private " label that can't find a database reference for track titles, length, etc.

I am using the old fashion WMP that can rip CD's in wav. Yes it's also still available for Windows 10 and you need to install it. My only problem with it is that the CD/DVD drive sometime doesn't speed up during ripping so it will take more time when it sticks on 2x speeds. Also the reason why i still have a windows XP and Windows 7 machine that can do the same  :hihi:
