Where were you 20 years ago?

Tomorrow the 11th September will mark 20 years since 9/11 I still remember it vividly and sat watching the footage dumbfounded at it all.

I'd been at a hospital on the morning of 9/11 getting an injection. I got home and turned the TV on just as the 2nd plane struck.

So where were you when you saw what was going on?

I landed in Washington DC at 8:09 am for a dot com business meeting. Spent the rest of the day drinking heavily as everyone thought this was the end of the world lol

I was just about to end my morning shift on the air at a radio station when the first plane hit the tower. The board op at the other station in the building had been watching a TV monitor in his studio and called me in to see what was happening, just as the second plane hit the other tower. I immediately ran back into my studio and started to monitor the CBS radio network feed to find out what was happening. The satellite country feed on my station began cutting into regular programming with bulletins and about an hour later, both stations were doing wall-to-wall coverage of the tragedy.

My wife was working as editor of the local daily newspaper, and I left my station to help her work on a special edition of the paper. Later that afternoon, we learned that one of the Pentagon victims was from a small town about 7 miles away and another local resident was in New York on vacation and had photographs of the towers going down that the paper was able to use.

That night, we gathered our children together and looked up into the sky to see, for the first time, and hopefully the last time, clear night skies with no airplanes in view.
