Moving from SAM to Radio DJ

I'm thinking of moving from SAM to Radio DJ and have a couple of questions.

First, my station runs on a dedicated server, which has no sound card. Is this possible with RDJ?

My station runs with scheduled shows, I don't play singles. Is it possible to schedule shows on a weekly, monthly and say 1st & third Monday of each month.

Has anyone else here made the move and is there anything I should be aware of.

Thanks in advance..

Hi Busby (I've been watching your topic on the Spacial forums I feel your pain)

You should be able to run RadioDJ alongside a Virtual audio cable (Which is like the silent output on SAM)

There is an option in events to repeat by Date and hour have a play around with events they're a lot more robust than the events scheduler in SAM

Once you have you events configured backup the database with the DB setup tool and will preserve your databases should the worst happen.

Hello,
RadioDJ does not have an option to play shows on the first or third mondays, etc.
but there are ways that you can get it to work.

You could use some SQL code to detect if the date is a 1st or 3rd Monday, and if true, then enable an event, which would then load your show / playlist at the time that you wanted to play it.

Then schedule an event which would run after that show is finished, and that event would disable that event, so it would not be trigger the following week.

RadioDJ is so flexible, but it does not have that ability built-in to it.

How are your shows delivered? are they 1 large audio file, or are they a live stream?

Lol - many thanks for the reply.

I've been broadcasting with SAM for almost 18 years and have 4 licenses, but the support is appalling with me mostly being fobbed off with lame requests for logs etc. This problem has taken weeks of my time with no resolution in sight and no help from SA.

Obviously, jumping ship to another platform is a big step for me, so I don't want to spend more time unless I'm sure its going to work for me.

I'm afraid my programming skills are very limited and I don't understand MYSQL at all so that wouldn't be an option for me. Also, no show is ever an exact length so programming another event to end it also wouldn't work.

All shows come a single file, 1 or 2 hours duration plus ID's & jingles play at random between shows. Shows are uploaded by artists to my server via ftp.

If a file is a different duration everytime theres a setting in track import to set it as a Variable Duration File.

You don't have to use MySQL queries if you don't want to have a play around with events they really are as flexible as you make them. You don't need any programming language.

Would every show need to have it's own event if it's not possible to have reoccurring ones?

Yes initially you would need to set each show with its own event look under event type thats where you get options to repeat events...

Everytime you setup an event backup the RadioDJ database Unlike SAM the events are fully backed up and not in 2 parts

You will initially have to put in the hard work to set things up but once set RadioDJ should run and run without an issues

Gary, please explain how you would do a show which alternates every 2 weeks.

the only option I see for that, would be to create an event of type "Repeat by Date and Hour", which is for a date, such as Feb 25, but for every year. So then you would need to create 26 events (52 weeks divided by 2), for each time you wanted that program to run, AND if that event changed, you would need to edit all 26 occurrences of those events.

Is that how you would do it?

That sounds like a nightmare.

DJ Garybaldy

OK so i misunderstood the original question Theres a repeat by date and hour in the new beta... I thought thats what that was meant to be for to repeat the same show at certain points in the month.
