Winamp is 25

25 years ago this week  the first version of Winamp was released by Nullsoft (Remember Them?)

I discovered Winamp in 1999 when I was looking for an mp3 player on my first time using a computer.



I used Winamp briefly in 2002 to stream my hobby station and it was PANTS the Shoutcast DSP encoder would keep disconnecting.

If only I had RadioDJ back then... The only half assed option was S*M

25 years later I feel as if Winamp has been LET DOWN by its current owners and that the software to all intents is Tarnished forever.

I uninstalled Winamp a good 6 months ago now I use RadioDJ or browser if I want to listen to someone's radio stream.

It must have been around '97/'98 when we first got broadcasting on the internet using Winamp live input and Shoutcast plugins through a blisteringly fast dial-up 56k modem which was a vast improvement on a 28.8k one! Back in the days when you used to get kicked off after 2 hours and had to reconnect on an all inclusive package!

Interestingly, no matter how many different skins I tried, I always ended up coming back to the default one as in the picture that you posted.

I disliked a lot of the skins that were produced for Winamp over the years

I did find a nice one but lost it after a PC crash and was never able to find it again I always used Classic


I much prefer the colour editor in RadioDJ to Winamp skins.
