Solid State Drives

When I first heard of Solid State drives 10 years ago I couldn't help but notice that they cost a LOT of money

I've just had to send my 32GB machine in for repair (I dropped it and screwed the motherboard over) and I've asked them to stick me a 1TB SSD in Priced at £109 that's at least 800 pounds cheaper than they were.

I doubt I'll be using traditional spindle drives again now SSD drives are becoming cheaper.

Great decision! :) We've been using an SSD (not as big as yours!) for a few years and it's great! I have read about the read/write wear but when you think of all the RadioDJ activities, editing, adding and deleting tracks, we've had no problems at all with it so far and of course by their very nature they're lightning fast!

Nothing lasts forever of course but I haven't seen any downside so far compared with the old HDD's. I suppose that's my jinx for ours to pack up later!  :hihi:

Got my refurbished 32GB machine back this morning the repairs & new drive cost me around £212

that means the 32GB computer is now the 2nd most expensive PC I've owned I'm going to have to treat it with Kid Gloves

Just reinstalling Windows as the PC hasn't been fired up since v2031 :bash:

How's it going with the SSD Gary? Hopefully it's like having a turbo boosted pc now! :)

DJ Garybaldy

It had an SSD with Windows 10 (Which I had to reactivate) in the machine already the new 1TB SSD seems to be performing as it should.

I've got as far as installing RadioDJ I need a lot more stuff installing before I use it as my main PC again

A SSD is probably the best way to breathe new life into an older computer that doesn't have one. It makes a world of difference. My primary computer has a SSD for the operating system, and a traditional drive for the data. I've been running it on that SSD since about 2011 and it's been fine.

My oldest Machine was upgraded to SSD drives about 7 years now initially it was a (Kingston) 240GB drive as that's all I could afford at that time.

I remember seeing SSD's in shops in 2010 and the prices were Eye watering

When i saw how Cheap the 1TB drives had become NOW it made financial sense to get one fitted in the newest PC
