Variety. Also, I've got a day job, as much fun as it would be to sit there all day picking songs to play, I can't do that. I also don't want to hear things repeat in the same order - which is what I was getting before switching to random.

Something else I do to help "shuffle" the category a little bit is recycle songs in the overnight hours. For specific categories, half of the requests for the category between midnight and 6am are filled by songs that played between 7am and 6pm the previous day. This also helps to extend the category by about 12.5% before it begins to repeat again.
