External Hard Drives

Hello Good People
I am fairly new to using RadioDJ so forgive me if I am asking a stupid question.
I am running my station off 2 laptops. One as a Music player running RadioDJ. The other as an encoder using BUTT or Rocket Broadcaster.
My "Music" laptop has limited hard disk space. I have a 2TB external hard drive connected via usb to this laptop, which houses my tracks and station Id's etc.
When I try to add tracks via the ADD FOLDER function the only option I have is "Desktop". In the ADD FILE option I can add any track from the External hard drive.
Obviously it would suit me to add the folder of tracks than having to go back and forward to add tracks. But I cannot "see" the external hard drive in the add folder option.

Any help or advise (even negative) would be gratefully received. :'(

Many thanks for the link.
But my main concern is that when I click on add folder, all I see is Desktop.
It doesn't show me C:\ or anything else.
How do i change that?
As I said if I want to load single tracks thats easy. It shows the external drive.
But Import folder doesn't!!!!

Kiwi

Apologies if I'm not understanding you but are you saying when you use Tracks Manager/ Import Folder and the Directory Import folder appears you can then not get to the external drive?

Have you clicked on the "Directory" symbol on the right hand side of the screen? If you click on this symbol the "Browse For Folder" window should appear and you should be able to select the external drive through File Explorer.

Again, apologies if I am misunderstanding you.

Hi Kiwi
Firstly no need for any apologies, I am just grateful for the help.

When I click on Import Folder, the4n go to the folder Icon, the dialogue box opens. But the only option it shows me is "Desktop"
That's it!!
There is no option to look elsewhere, not even to my laptop hard drive.
The area to input a path is greyed out and I cannot enter any text in there either, so cannot input a path to my external drive.

As mentioned earlier, if I went to Import File, all my drives are visible and I have successfully imported Tracks etc from there.

But I would really like to import the folders, as its a damn sight quicker!!
Again, thanks for your help

"The area to input a path is greyed out and I cannot enter any text in there either, so cannot input a path to my external drive."

To the right of the "greyed out" is another "box" with the directory symbol in it. Are you clicking on the symbol? Do this and another dialog box (Browse For Folder) should open into File Explorer.

Try to run RadioDJ as administrator.
If you can import then, something is wrong with your user-rights on Windows.
Or your Anti-Virus is blocking RadioDJ...

Kiwi
I have selected this box and thats when the Dialogue box saying "Desktop" pops up.
Thanks

KAI
Would you advise to reinstall as administrator or just open the programme as administrator.

Unfortunately not at home to test so will try later and advise..
Cheers

Kai

Try to run RadioDJ as Administrator first.
After that you can still try to do a new installation as Administrator.

Another question: Did you install RadioDJ directly in the root of your drive (for example C:\RadioDJ) or is it under C:\Programs\?
Because RadioDJ should be installed directly under( C:\ or root of another drive.
If it is not directly under the root directory, the installation can also cause problems because of the UAC (User Access Control) of Windows.

Hi,

We have this issue too after upgrading our test machine to Windows 11.

We tested and it impacted both RDJ 2.0.3.9 and 2.0.0.6.

Import Directory worked in Windows 10. In Windows 11 the user can only navigate / browse to directories using Import File meaning each track needs to be manually loaded one by one. Exactly as you report, Import Directory only shows the computer's Desktop directory and it's impossible to browse / open folders etc. It's like looking at a PDF of the Desktop within the Browse To Folder screen.

I hope that helps to diagnose the problem. Sorry - we don't have a solution yet (other than rolling back to an earlier version of Windows).

Don't know if this will solve the problem but you may wish to check if Radiodj has access authority to files and directories through Windows 10/11?....

Thanks for your fast reply Kiwi :). Good idea.

I checked and 'Let app access your file system' is turned on.

Last paragraph on the Microsoft help page addresses 'Exceptions' and says not all apps are listed such as those downloaded from the web. 'To allow or deny file system access for one of these programs, check the settings in the program itself.'

I had a quick look within RDJ and don't see where to do that.

(also tried right clicking RadioDJ.exe and running as Administrator and got the same result)

All ideas welcome!!!

Did you check the permissions of the root directory in File Explorer? C:\Radiodjv2\ Right click on it Properties/Security and see what permissions are given to users?

Just a thought...

Ps I assume you know Radiodj should have it's own root directory and not be included in another e.g. C;\Programs\Radiodj. This can cause problems if it is.

I have solved my Issue!!
Not sure how, but will explain my processes
I thought it was a Database problem, so I downloaded an installed the earliest MariaDB I could Find Version 10.3.38
I also downloaded RadioDJ version 2.0.0.6

ALSO... I had read that there could be issues due to Microsoft One Drive. On examining the Import Folder option it was looking at C:\users\me\onedrive\desktop.
Effectively by-passing my other drives.
So I found away of
a) Stopping Onedrive
b) moving to c:\users\me\desktop (I think!!)

So after messing about with Onedrive\desktop I installed RadioDJ, and attempted to "Import Folder"  and voila!!! We can see all the folders and drives connected to the Laptop.

I then upgraded to the latest version of RadioDJ and upgraded MariaDB via the Utilities tab and I can now access all all drives and folders on my laptop!!!

You can read an detailed article about "How to prevent Windows from saving to OneDrive" here:

https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-prevent-save-onedrive/

It explains also how to set 'Desktop' from OneDrive to your local computer.
So, you don't have to switch off OneDrive completely.
