Hi there,
I'm 100% sure that this has ben up a 100 of times but I can't find.

I've bout a new computer and want to make a complete copy of music, database, settings and all you can think of.

Any good ideas? What to do first to last :-)

I can only think of the following steps:

  • Backup your database, save it on a disk or in the cloud or wherever you can find it.
  • Make a new install of Radio DJ on the new computer and replace the database file with the backup file you made.
  • Restart Radio DJ.

Done!

Sounds like an easy activity. I'll start with a big mug of coffee.

Thanks!

Oh no, trouble... The new setup won´t read my backup file  :bash:

I createted it fram Radio DJs db-manager and just pressed the purple "back up database".

In my new computer i created a new database with the same namne and logon/password as in the old computer. It runs ok. I must create a new database to import the backup.

This is the error in the database backup-window (in my new computer): "error mysqlexception (0x80004005): collation ´utf8mb3_general_ci´ is not valid for charctor set ´utf8mb4´ at system..."

The computer I´m exporting fram runs a Radio DJ 2.0.4.5, the same as the new one.
Both runs Maria DB MySQL and i have set it up the same way I think? I look at it with HeidiSQL 12.6.0.675 on both machines.

What to do.

It would be nice to use back ups on my radiostations... lol

Try not to use MySQL there are known issues

Use MariaDB

Which versionif MariaDB/ Radii DJ are you trying to use together?

Because not all MariaDB version will run with newer RadioDJ

Try 2039 and Mariadb 10.6 as im having no issues with those together

Ive just had a 40 day uptime

I just do a new setup and resan the music files and album art. If your files were set up correctly in the firt place it doesn't take very long,

I understand what you mean but if it is this hard to restore from a backup i think i have to learn all the known issues... Who knos when i will have my first real crash...

Have anyone made a back up and done a good resinstall of the database or is it just me :-(

I use Maria DB server version 11.4.2 on both machines and radio dj 2.0.4.5 on both two as well.

The error has to do with the database backup. If I ad new songs etc it works fine.

This may help you understand and resolve the error you mention in post #4....

Collation Issue

Thanks!
That should solve the problem in an perfect world... but not this time. One day some one more will thank us for this thread :-)

1 The link was good and now I have changed all utf8mb3_general_ci to utf8mb4_general_ci in the old setup and exported the database.

2 To terminate alla possible errors I´ve even lookd for utf8mb3_general_ci in the new installation and there was no 3.

3. When restoring the backup i still get the error message in the new computer.

Completed with error(s) MySqlException (0x80004005): COLLATION ´utf8mb3_general_ci´ isnot valid for CHARACTER SET ´utf8mb4´ at system.Ru..... after u.... I cant see more because the text is too long (lol) for the window

:bash:  :bash:  :bash:  :bash:  :bash:  :bash:  :bash:

Can it have something to do with my charactor set in my new computer?

utf8mb4 Solution

Quote from: Kiwi on January 12, 2024, 05:06:45 PMDo not know if you have resolved this but...

I believe this may be caused by some past updates that have retained the COLLACTION 'uft8mb3__general_ci' process in your 2.0.4..3 database. RadioDJ now uses the 'uft8mb4__unicode_ci' COLLATION. At least that is what my 2.0.4.3 and 2.0.4.4 database have.

You can change the COLLATION via the Heidi database program using the Tools menu. Tools/Maintenance/Bulk Table Editor/Change Default Collation

I have not tried this as I have no need. If you wish to try, please ensure you back up the 2.0.4.3 Database before trying this procedure.

Others may have a different opinion and hopefully will contribute to this thread.

All the Best.

Today you really rocked my world. Thanks, now my new computer works like charm. I used Heidi to do the bulk-table change my radiostations database "SAR-Radio-DB" (marked that one in the list) and set the new setup to "uft8mb4: UTF-8 Unicode" at the bottom of the list to get uft8mb4__unicode_ci.

Now we are broadcasting again.
