How to create a category/rotation for 'A' List tracks?

Hello everyone, just wanted to say 'hi' after settling on RadioDJ making the move over from Sam Broadcaster!

Anyway, I've been reading the really useful posts on the forum and have got our rotation running really well thanks to several bits of advice I've read (thanks for that!). I have a query though .. can anyone advise me on how to create a category/rotation for 'A' List tracks? In other words, current tracks that have just been released that rotate heavier than the normal list.

I have a list of 8-10 tracks that I'd like to include on this. I thought about just dropping them in randomly one every 90 minutes for instance using an event but my worry is that they could appear right next to or near an older track by the same artist. Would the only way to avoid this be to disable all the tracks from the artists on the 'A' List so this one current track is the only one in the rotation? Then when it's no longer "current", enable all the older tracks from that artist again?

I've wracked my brains but can't think of another way. Would be grateful for any pointers/advice.

Many thanks  :)

Derek

Hi Trepen and welcome to the world of RadioDJ and the great forum we have here :)

My first thought is to just build your rotation so that an item would pick an A list item every so often within the list of rotation items and put a tick in repeat rules, but if that would still mean it would choose one too often based on the length in terms of items in your rotation then, yes, creating an event to load an A list track to the top or bottom of the playlist for example, should obey the global repeat rules set in Options, AutoDJ section if you tick repeat rules when creating the item. You could experiment with it to make sure it's working as you intend it to.
If it obeys the repeat rules then you shouldn't have to disable/enable tracks. Actually, I've just noticed that you've posted this in the v1.7+ section, so maybe if using an old version of RadioDJ, I can't remember if that option has always been available. Are you using an old version, or the latest release?

What you could try, is go into tracks manager and set the mood for your a-list tracks to something like accomplished or accepted.
When building your rotation, if you are using a few different subcats, pick the subcat those tracks are in and set the mood to the chosen mood when you want those tracks to play.
So say you are playing a current followed by a recurrent followed by an 90s or 2000s or 2010s track just as an example, you would set current subcat, mood accepted or accomplished whichever you have chosen, then the rest of your rotation.
If you have all tracks in the one subcat then this won't apply and perhapse setting the tracks via the events would be your best bet but i've never tried it so can't say whether it would work or not.
Now i am using the latest release so things might be different for the 1.7 releases i can't remember to be honest. Good luck.
