New scheduling and timing

Good morning all

not sure if this is the way to go about it...

I am trying to schedule a pre-recorded new bulletin (source file is a variable duration file that will be over written each time)

the problem i am having is that i want to play a jingle/shotgun just before the clip start airing... but jingles have variable durations, and i would like to vary the jingle played

is there a way to create an event that loads a random jingle followed by the news intro jingle... but the jingle starts playing 'x' seconds before say 10am so that the news jingle starts playing exactly at 10am?

Music Box

Hi, when you create the event for the news load the jingle randomly like this: Load track from category, Selection the category, Sub Category, Genre, Select the mode, Flag on Items leaving 1
This way you will have a random jingle before the News or any other Category you want to play.
I hope it helps.  ;)
Hi.

Hi Music Box

thank you for your suggestion

However, that is what i am doing at the moment... the problem is that the jingle loaded will almost always vary in duration

for example... if jingle 1 loads and is 6 seconds long... i would like the 'Play' to go 6seconds before 10am.
but... if jingle 2 loads and it tis 9 seconds long... then i want the 'Play to start 9seconds before...

all this so that the new jingle loaded directly after it starts at 10am on the dot... not earlier, not later

is this in anyway possible?

Music Box

Hi, I don't think it's possible, but if at 09,59,54 a song is playing that has 2 minutes to go, I don't think it's nice for the listeners to have the track cut off.
You can use SMART TIME when creating events.
As far as I'm concerned it's 90% reliable.

johnsant1991

I know about smart timing... and use it for advert breaks

but news takes precedence over everything else... and has to start on the dot... exactly on the hour... that is my problem

i don't mind the song fading out and the jingle starting... at the moment i am using the same jingle each time, so i know exactly when to start the event... but would like to vary the jingle which is not possible this way as with a variable duration, it is not possible to predict when the jingle should start

In fact, you are looking for an action with a fix end time instead of a fix start time.
Is this possible? Ï'm curious...

exactly

Music Box

Hi, I think what you are asking is not possible.
I wrote a request to be included in the next editions, but it fell on deaf ears, there was a dissent from someone.

Maybe with this implementation you would have solved it.
We use another software for the live broadcast (paid) and it does what you asked the second one.
Hi.

johnsant1991

Interesting concept... but not exactly what i'm after as we don't really do playlists... we are live 24/7 so it is a bit difficult get the timing exactly

Music Box

It was just an idea. ;)
Hi.

With a free software like RDJ getting exact timing is asking for a lot.
Smart Timing still has not been perfected - so not suggested to check the box.

Best suggestion - it works a high percentage of the time - is to set your top hour event at:57, :58 or :59. I rarely have a top hr ID play at 2 or 3 minutes past the hour. On the occasions it does - I don't sweat it. It's internet streaming.

When I was in terrestrial radio the software we used (like RCS, Wide Orbit etc) cost hundreds monthly. You get what you pay for.

Be flexible = less stress.

Hi Charlie

fully understand that you get what you pay for (in this case, we are very gratful to Marius for the free software... which is very very good, even compared to some other software we were looking into which cost thousands and was not as good)

i was not asking for a fix... rather if someone had managed to do what i am after

i am experimenting about with it... but being quite a newbie, i am sure i have not even used 50% of the software's potential... so i am sure that i can learn from what others suggest

The only way I know to do this would be to put all your jingles in separate sub categories or genres by duration. Then create events that play at a certain time before the hour (6 seconds say) and only select jingles from the sub categories or genres that are 6 seconds long. You would need to insert the Start Playing command in the event so it plays immediately and does not wait until the previous track ends. This involves quite a bit of work depending on how many jingles you have and how many different length jingles you have. You can schedule a different length jingle event each hour to make it more random. This is the only way to sort of accomplish what you are trying to do that I can think of.
