CUE Editor: Save As Default button not working?

One can access the CUE Editor in various ways:
1. right-clicking a track in the search results and select Edit Cue;
2. In Playlist Builder, right-click a track in your playlist and select 'Temporary edit';
3. On a song in the cue list, click one of the clocks (bottom right).

Only accessing the CUE Editor thru method 1 will allow me to permanently save the cue points (for future use) by clicking the SAVE button. When using methods 2 or 3, the SAVE button only TEMPORARILY saves my cue points. This all is clear

BUT: there's also a SAVE AS DEFAULT button. When clicking it and confirming that I want to save my settings as default, nothing seems to happen. When I load the song the next time, my previous editions are gone.

Is this a bug, or don't I understand the working of the SAVE AS DEFAULT button?
