National Public Radio News at the top of the hour

Here is a quick rundown of how I am event programming 5 minutes of news at the top of the hour.

I am running 1.6.0 on Windows XP

Go to Track manager and select import track, When the window pops up select settings tab
select category : Radio Streams
select subcategory: Syndicated News
select genre: vocal

Select Track Type: Internet Stream and a checkmark will appear in the path

Type in this path: http://nprdmp.ic.llnwd.net/stream/nprdmp_live01_mp3

That link is the National Public Radio continuous news feed and is fully scheduled for a week, You will have to see the NPR website to see the schedule, however about 1 minute after the hour is a news summary that is about  5 minutes long that is working well for me to have some hourly news feed.

Select the Details Tab and enter Artist and enter what you want to be seen in the title  like artist "NPR" and title "News"

Now click on import and then close the windows.

Go back to main RadioDJ screen and do a search and you should be able to click play on the cue screen, if the item plays then you have the feed setup right and are now ready to setup the events.

Adding an Event from the main screen click on events and select new and title it NPR NEWS start.

Add type  recurring by Day and hour   select active and set the time to  xx:01:05   one minute and 5 seconds past the hour  Note all the days and hours will have checks

now click the plus sign and add an event function.
(1)first item is Stop Playing   (this way any music playing will fade down at the top of the hour)
(2)next add load track and use the search to find your track you imported
(3)next add start playing /Start next!

should be in that order , if not drag each line and set them up as 1,2,3

click on Save Event,  Now  click on add new event and in this event setup same as the first one and

set it to xx:06:30    six minutes and 30 seconds  Call it "NPR Stop" and add event function

(1) Stop Playing!    and then add one more event function
(2) Start Playing/ Start Next!

Then save event and close your windows   Sync your computers time to the internet and you now have roughly 5 minutes of news at the top of the hour.  Sometimes you have to tweek the start time by a few seconds and if you want  to test just keep modifying the event start and the event end a few minutes into the future till you get the items trimmed and tested.
Kinda basic but it works and can be expanded on with some lead in jingles.
Hope this helps!
Radiodj Rocks!  Thanks!

Note: I just remembered that when you import the feed and you find it in your Search Que, it will not play in the cue to test but if you drag it and drop into the playlist it will play live. That is the way to test your import of the internet feed. If it works there then you can schedule the events of starting and stopping.

Enjoy! Long live RadioDJ!!!

Now running 1.6.4.5 and it is slightly different. You have to add stop Autodj and clear the playlist. then when you stop play of the NPR stream, you have to start the autodj and load a rotation to resume programming.

Mockson

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to locate the NPR continuous stream link.
The one I used to use now doesn't work anymore: http://nprdmp.ic.llnwd.net/stream/nprdmp_live01_mp3

Mockson

I guess I got my own answer:

Here it is:

http://pd.npr.org/anon.npr-mp3/npr/news/newscast.mp3

K-ONE-11

just a quick question here, anyone knows if the npr still is working and what link pls??

Capt_Fuzzy

Here's the link I use, updates hourly at approximately 5 minutes past the hour, this makes my TOTH news current as I use Internet Download Manager to download it at 15 past the hour and then I have an event grab the file and play it at the top of the following hour...

Compdoggie, how do I tell RDJ to download and save to file that I can later call for (reschedule for airing) ?
