Help with streaming

Hi,

At the moment I stream from my XP box through an ADSL connection but have noticed sometimes if there are a couple or three listeners at the one time the song slows down or stutters.

I would like to have max 50 people connected so they get a good clear connection.

Would I have to upload all my songs ton a cloud or server to get this?

Any suggestion please?

Thanks,

oz

It may be worth trying out one of the Free Shoutcast services like http://caster.fm or http://myradiostream.com/

Of course the free servers aren't guaranteed to be that reliable but it's somewhere to start. Then you would just have the one stream going to the server and the people listening will be using their bandwidth not yours.

It's never good to try and run a Shoutcast server on a home connection unless you have a really good upload speed.

Hope that helps some what.

Yes Gary that does really hel;p.

As simple as it was, I never saw any explanation like that.  They all give lots of info about what they do etc., but not the very basic.

I was not sure whether I had to load all the tracks up as they are talking cloud this and cloud that and I really didn't want to have to do that.

Just a one stream to them from my server and they expand it out is just what I was hoping for and need.

I will try a free one just to get the feel, but I did see a couple such as wavestreaming,  listen2myradio, for $10 -$29 a month up to 25/50 slots which would more than cover our type of thing.

Hit the spot with the answer Gary ! :-)

PS:  Which should I choose if asked, Shoutcast and Shoutcast V2 ?

SnowHow

Shoutcast v1 is easiest to set up and use. I recommend ReliaStream. They are reasonably priced and support is excellent. You can get a 100 slot 128Kbps Shoutcast server for only $20 USD/mo.

Shoutcast v2, IceCast 2 and KH are also available.

I've been with them since 2010 and no issues whatsoever (I make nothing from this, I'm just a happy customer :) ).

Hi,

Just wondered, would I have to set up another Shoutcast rather than the one I now use for Radiodj, or do I have to download another version?

I'd like to keep the one I have now also if possible. So I can come back to it until I find the host I will use.

Sorry, don't quite understand the question -

You don't need to download anything else, you can create multiple encoders in the A******t plugin. You can create as many as needed and disable the ones you don't need in the config dialog.

..been on tour..

Sorry to confuse believe no one more confused that me!! Getting abetter now though..

Have taken the 14 day free trail at ReliaStream and they have some very good deals like 500 slots for 15 a month for new members!

I am still not sure how I have set up Alta however it works through Relia and Shoutcast also Gary's great Playlist Web page. So I guess it must be right.

I added the extra encoder into Alta so it now had two, one with my own local IP and another with Relia's IP.

I tried to connect the Relea one however it kept saying the password is wrong. Tried every pwd I knew but still get that.

Anyway, when the original (local IP) encoder is connected it all works.

Does this sound correct?

Thanks for the help,

oz
BTW  In the The Dos panel, Shoutcast sc_serv.exe shows all the right data for each song.

Well moving right along...

I decided to upload the songs to the Relia site and it is online however I am trying to find how to get the stream to TuneIn and Shoutcast like I had when I stream it myself.

Have contact their support but am waiting for a response.

Also how to get ID's and song intros where I want them rather than random as it is doing.

Hoping I can get it to do as I want as it does seem a good deal.
