BUTT encoder failing to send now playing info...? stops and starts

Hi Folks,

Using Butt encoder, all working fine except it sends the now playing text file up to the server for a while and then stops with an error:

Updating songname failed.

This is intermittent. Radio DJ writes the songname in the text document on the c drive and this drive has all the permissions active and writes it reliably....

sometimes it works, sometimes not, but always after a restart of Butt encoder (for a while)

any ideas?????

Thanks

Pegbars

That's a bug in the encoder.  I had the same issue and posted a bug report to the BUTT SourceForge site... had no response.  I think the developer has abandoned that project.

I just switched back to some encoder Standalone.  It never misses the title updates.

I could never get BUTT working properly I found it far too flaky for streaming with.

As Pegbars said give some encoder/Edcast a try you can find downloads of both of those on my blog

There's a short tutorial here on installing some encoder http://djgarybaldy.co.uk/some encoder-standalone-tutorial/

Thanks for the good advice folks,

It seems like a bug which is sad because it works really well apart from that issue.

I was using some encoder standalone, but changes due to problems with it stopping, and "skipping" bits of the stream, its not the server I'm streaming to as Butt has proved this theory. (at least I think!)

I have a stable 2Mbs upload speed so it cant be that.

Are there such things as hardware boxes that can stream audio out there?

I use Butt Encoder and i use RadioDj To send the song info to my Shoutcast Server and it works all fine for me.
Tell me the settings that you have for Butt

Hi,

96K, 44100Khz, Stereo audio.

C\NowPlaying.Txt. active box ticked, file located on C drive in root.

Everything else is standard.

Try deleting the current NowPlaying.txt and let RadioDJ generate a new one and see if that makes any difference.

Do the artist & title of the current song show up in the .txt file?

Sounds to me like BUTT could be struggling to read the file.

Hi,
I deleted the NowPlaying .txt file and RDJ did not generate a new one. Where does it normally keep this in the root of the RDJ folder?

Go into Options>>Plugins>Playing Info plugin> highlight>click show>>File export tab and set the folder/location where you want radiodj to generate the new .txt file to.

Hi,

Ok I done that, I have made a new place for it on my open D drive. (this way we negate the permissions etc of the C drive)

It has made the file and it has written the song info in the document and changes on every song.

So far Butt is still not reading the file :(

Did you set the Butt encoder to read the new location?

I have only had success (regardless of which encoder) when the text file was inside the C:\RadioDJ folder.

Look at the list to get the right way for the Song update

Open Butt> Click on Settings> Click on the tab That says Stream> Find Update song form File. Find your Now Playing Text
File> Then Click on Activate> then you are ready to go.

I RECOMMEND THAT YOU TO HAVE THE FILE ON YOUR C DRIVE THE FIRST DRIVE SO IT CAN WORK!!!!!

Ok Folks....

Rebooted PC, Restarted RDJ and made a new txt file from RDJ that places it into the root folder of RDJ ( C:\RadioDJ\NowPlaying.txt)

Butt is now pointing to that file and on start up and encoding its reading the file and sending it to the server.... all good so far.

I will keep an eye on it and let you all know how it goes.

thanks everyone
