Streaming news from Bbc: forbidden
« on: February 09, 2016, 12:23:05 AM »
I'm sure this was already written in the forum, but I couldn't find it, so I'm sorry. I discovered somewhere here in the forum this link to broadcast Bbc news on an hourly base: http://wsdownload.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/css/96mp3/latest/bbcnewssummary.mp3. I asked the Bbc World Service if it's legal to rebroadcast from a web radio their streaming. I got a phone call appointment with them and the answer is: NO, you can't use it. Any web radio or fm radio station is not allowed to broadcast it. They provide that link only for private listening on your own pc. By the way they do provide a service to web and fm radio station which lasts no more than one minute also with a music bed. It can be broadcasted every hour but it costs 100 pounds per month. Besides they can't sell it to private user, you need to sign a contract with them and you need to be a society to get the invoice. Hope this help, but beware they can check if you are using it.
So I gave up this project at the moment and I'm looking for free news streaming, better if they last not more than 2 minutes. You are welcome :)

Yeah, this was discussed in another thread and the author got the same reply, a big, fat 'NO' as well...

I get mine from NPR News (National Public Radio News) and they don't have the same "qualms" about their news being "rebroadcast" so long as it is left in it's entirety.
They have files as short as 2 minutes (I think, I use the 5 min update every hour.), up to a full hour (if ya really want to go that route), they cover "world news" but it's a US based agency so I don't know if that will help any...

Yes Capt, I think I have listened to yours, but it was a bit too long (five minutes) and too much US oriented, maybe the 2 minutes version you are talking about, better suits my needs. I will have a look. Thanks  :)

Hi Capt_Fuzzy, I looked around but couldn't find the 2 minutes news on NPR site. Could you please link it, if you have?
Thanks

BBc have the hourly bulletins as skynews have the same.
Two audio quality are offered:
Standard quality:
http://wsdownload.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/css/32mp3/latest/bbcnewssummary.mp3

High quality:
http://wsdownload.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/css/96mp3/latest/bbcnewssummary.mp3

The url you can find the links and terms is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-17434527

As told above, Sky offers simmilar bulletin that  you can find at: http://news.sky.com/info/radio

The link for the Sky news update bulletin is:
http://video.news.sky.com/snr/news/snrnews.mp3

They are about five minutes as well. Hope it helps you

I said that "I thought" they had a 2 minute version, after looking around, the shortest is the 5 minute version.., sorry if my answer was misleading...  :(

Hi Capt, you never give me satisfaction  :'(

@ncborges:
Didn't you read what I wrote starting my post about Bbc news bulletin? Anyway the Sky bulletin is pretty good and it lasts 2 minutes. Exactly what I was looking for, but again, is it legal to rebroadcast? I remember what Capt_Fuzzy wrote in another post, saying: you can ask them and maybe they can even don't answer as many not commercial radio and web radio use it. Now I will write them and wait for the answer...

For $15 a month you could subscribe to Feature Story News. http://featurestorynews.com/

They have the option of 5 Minute, 3 Minute or 30 second news updates to download. We have been taking that service for 4 years now.

If legal I do not know, but I've been usng for long time with no troubles.. :D
Is there is public and I think is not problem if you're not doing money, but worth a try. Send an email en keep your copies. I don't think you'll get an answer as said ou Captain, but at least, you've tried.

Yes, one can try, but in the end they could fine you for using material under copyright. In that case what should you do? You'll have to pay, and how much ? Who knows? I repeat: actually I'm paying music licence in my country because I don't want to be fined, even if I think it'is a legal robbery for an amatorial web radio who doesn't broadcast ads...  >:D Should I risk for a news feed? I don't know!

I run TruNews hourly 1-minute updates.  Free to Part 15 and streaming stations.

With a caveat... I was an affiliate of Leo Ashcraft's Mutual Radio News.  He quickly lost interest, and TruNews took over supplying content to his affiliates, so I was grandfathered in.  I've never seen anything on the TruNews website saying they accept free subscribers, but it would be worth dropping them an inquiry.

You're very welcome.  Yes, please let us know what they say.  I've been hesitant to recommend them, since I don't know what their policy is, if any.
