Best (free) audio processing for v1.8.2?

WDA1.com

So... finally got updated from 1.7.3 to 1.8.2.  Love the new features..... but....

Radio DJ now doesn't seem to like the DSP Stacker, and the Sound Solution audio processing I had.
I can get Radio DJ to install the DSP stacker (sort of,) but as soon as I restart Radio DJ, the DSP stacker disappears.  Cant' get it to stick around long enough to get Sound Solution up and running.   Anyone have great ideas on audio processing, outside of the basic that comes w/ Radio DJ?

Major Armstrong

I like Stereo Tool.  There's a free version, too, and the support is great. :)

Another free one here but we could not get it to work with Win 7 64 Bit. Might be worth a try. http://www.burnill.co.uk/

Another solution would be to use VoiceMeeter and through that, route your audio using pre-fader patch inserts to a VST Host. There are a gazillion of free VST plugins out there for you to tweak your sound.

Try Octimax.... works superb, perfect combi with RDJ!!!! :ok:

Collection of plugins: http://winamp.dpedu.io/Plugins/DSP%20Effect/

I would enclose the DSP, but I'm 128kb allowed... plugin is 260kb......

Therefore dropbox link.... https://www.dropbox.com/s/jqvll3xnt3wyf8u/OctimaxDSP.zip?dl=1

I would join Major Armstrong in Stereotool. You can't really get any better for free.

I am using without any problems whatsoever on W10. The download link still works: https://support.xmplay.com/files_view.php?file_id=8

I like it because as an audio engineer I understand the way it operates. Contrary to the overly complicated interface that Stereo tool uses.
Of course in both applications the presets are complete trash. I was able to make decent presets in both applications. Ultimately I choose to keep using Sound solution, since the UI makes more sense to me.

As for the installation: Are you able to find dsp_ss131b.dll file?
This file should be placed in: \RadioDJ\Plugins\

I'm pretty sure you can simply copy it over. I think that is all you need. The preset files for Sound solution shall be placed in: \RadioDJ\

That's all. Then you only need to start the plug in in RDJ using the DSP plug in. I have also added the DSP plug in to the quick access buttons on the bottom of the RDJ UI. If you have any problems or questions feel free to ask.

I have added the slightly updated presets I use in the attachment.

  • Use the [ + ] [ - ] to move to the preset you want to use, then press load.
  • The left box with name tells you your current preset in use and the name box on the right will show you what preset is selected for loading or if you want to save a new preset to the position.
  • You can also see the [ 0 ] between the above boxes. This represents the preset position. Preset 0 = ss0.dat file.

Preset:

  • +4 limits the amount of the AGC and is the most transparent version, however it may not boost some quiet songs enough. (classical music, quiet recordings)
  • +4 AGC doesn't limit the the AGC and will boost the sound as much as needed. High amplitude transitions might be "bumpy" but it's generally just fine.

The emphasis with these presets is on transparency and control over the loudness of the output.
The presets will slightly enhance "clarity" and the stereo image. The compression and limiting is spread through all stages to reduce pumping and unnecessary artifacts.

Optionally you can use the Overdrive slider to make the sound louder and slightly "warmer", but note that it will also drive the components more. Use with caution. I personally don't use this option, but it's fine at low values (2dB).

Please also note that: You need to disable all native RDJ Audio processing, as well as lower the in chain volume! See the attached pic.

Yep, definitely agree with Filip83.
Sound Solution is just creazy if you want to take a few hours to make a good setting.
I've set it up on my radio station and the result is definitely great, spacius, etc... A must have
(too bad that the guy behind it hasn't continue enhancing it, nor leaving the source code as open-source).

While this is active again I can say that I have recently also tested the free version of Stereo tool.

http://www.stereotool.com/

Over all it produces great results. However the interface is extremely non intuitive even for someone that has 10+ years of background in audio engineering. Furthermore I think it's excessively detailed and I'm not sure that is a good thing. The application has many presets but I don't think they are very good. Another thing I noticed is that stereo tool can add "color" to the sound (then again most dsp processors can). Now that can be good or bad. If you like the sound colored you will like Stereo tool (presets).
If you know what you are doing you can make it pretty much "transparent" as well.

I have compared stereo tool and sound solution.

Sound solution has a relatively intuitive interface and the controls are what you would expect them to be. It uses similar functions to the free version of stereo tool. I have to say both applications sound just fine. I have chosen Sound solution myself mostly because I prefer to understand what goes on in the process chain and the interface is probably lighter.

You can download the preset I made for Stereo tool.
Keep in mind I don't fully understand all the controls. I tried to make it so it wont over compress and as much "transparent" as possible.

I have also updated my Sound Solution presets above.
