Q: While importing a folder RadioDJ stops importing songs why?

A: Check the windows error logs it will tell you the name of the file that has the problem.

Control Panel>Administrative tools>Event viewer>Windows Logs>Application

This problem is usually caused by an Illegal character like a question mark ? in the filename. Rename the file to remove any illegal characters and try importing again.

Or alternatively Uncheck the "Use ID3 CUE data" box and try again.

Q: My Anti-Virus program says the RadioDJ program files are suspicious.

A: Avast and other AV software is in some cases reporting files as infected. That is a false positive!

I can assure users that Marius always checks released files with most modern antivirus programs.

Quick Fix: Exclude the RadioDJ program folder from being scanned by your AV software that way it shouldn't throw any more errors up at you.

We can assure you that the program files are perfectly safe.

Ideally if you don't do any website browsing or download dodgy files on the PC running RDJ you then you don't really need antivirus software installing, That will cut down on a lot of problems.

Q: I hear an echo with my microphone when I press the Input button.

A: The Input button was never intended to be a microphone input.

In order to use a microphone with RadioDJ you will need to route your microphone through a mixing desk.

Then route the output from the mixer into the Line in (blue) socket of the PC. Then use Voicemeeter  to pick the sound up from your microphone and then route the output to your encoding software.

It will sound a lot more professional that way.

Q: How do i transfer RadioDJ to a new machine with the same settings?

Moving RadioDJ to a new machine with the same settings is really easy.

Just follow a few simple steps and it's easy as ABC

1) On the old machine running RadioDJ take a database backup using the database setup tool. (This will backup rotations/playlists/songs/events etc...)

2) Copy that .sql backup file along with the RadioDJ program folder onto a USB pen drive.

3) Install MariaDB on the new machine. Once you have verified (mysqld.exe) is running as a service move onto the next step.

4) Copy the RadioDJ folder from the USB drive onto the C:\ drive of the new machine and give it full "Administrator" read/write privileges.

5) Using the database setup tool install the RadioDJ database. Ideally give it the same name it had on the old machine. If you see "MySQL server online" then move onto the next step.

6) Use the "restore database" button at the top to restore the .sql backup file from the USB pen.

7) Where possible try and make sure the music files have the same folder/path they had on the old computer. If they have a different file path/structure just use "Relocate tracks" from the utilities menu and RadioDJ will find the songs again.

Relocating tracks may take a while if you have a large library, Hence why we recommend having the music files with the same destination folders.

Once you've verified everything is the same as it was on the old machine then you should be good to start streaming.

It really isn't that difficult to move RadioDJ onto a new computer and it ideally shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes.

Q: I'm having trouble downloading & installing RadioDJ

A: If the download link isn't working for you from the main RadioDJ downloads page then you need to (Right Click) on the version number and "Save link as" it will give you the option to save the .zip file.

Then you use a program such as WinRAR to unzip the RadioDJ folder to the root of the C:\ drive (outside of the program folder)

Important: Once unzipped and on the root of the C:\ drive give the RadioDJ folder full read/write administrator privileges

Then you move onto configuring things:

1) Then you will need to install MariaDB as per these instructions

Once MariaDB is installed and you've checked via task manager to see if "mysqld.exe" is a running as a service then you move onto configuring RadioDJ

2) Inside the RadioDJ folder there's a folder called "setup" open that folder and open databasesetup.exe (as administrator)

Fill out the details of your database

MySQL Server = 127.0.0.1 or localhost
MySQL Database = Give it a unique name
MySQL User = This is usually just "root"
MySQL Password = The PW you chose when setting up Maria DB.

3) Click on "Install database" and fingers crossed if you've entered your details correctly then the database should install.

4) From the main RadioDJ program folder send the radiodj.exe icon to the desktop as a shortcut then open the program from the desktop (as administrator) and start configuring things/importing music.

5) You may also need to switch off UAC (user access control) from Start>Control panel>User accounts - Set it to the lowest level.

These are just the basic instructions to get RadioDJ working. If you are still unsure use the Forum SEARCH function your question may well have already been answered.

If you are still stuck then maybe you should ask for help... We don't bite!

It shouldn't be difficult to use and install RadioDJ

Q: Why am I getting large gaps of silence between tracks? Tracks are sometimes skipping & Nothing is crossfading properly.

A: We found when we came across this issue that it was a hard drive in the computer that had started to fail or had become corrupted by a split second power failure.

The only solution to this problem is to transfer the music files onto a newer drive.

Once you have moved the music files onto a different hard disk use "relocate tracks" from the Utilities menu to point RadioDJ to their new location on a new drive.

You should be back to smooth crossfading again.

Q: I've moved my tracks to another hard drive. How do I get RadioDJ to recognise those tracks again?

A: You simply use Utilities>Relocate Tracks to find the songs again from a different hard disk/USB device.

Tip: Make sure you take a database backup using the database setup tool after you have located the songs again. Just incase.

It also helps if you try to use the same drive letter where possible.

Q: Can I stream music from sites such as Spotify, Soundcloud, Youtube, Mixcloud etc... in RadioDJ ?

A: In short the answer is NO

Those sites DO NOT allow the music to be streamed/played outside of their websites for legal reasons. Even re-recording/downloading and rebroadcasting those streams/songs is also a big NO NO!

Q: What about the playback of podcasts?

A: You can play podcasts in RadioDJ as long as you have the permission from the author of that podcast to re-broadcast it.

We hope this clears up this matter.

Q: Can I use an external database server with RadioDJ

In short NO

Having a remote database is a bad idea, Should the connection between your computer and the external server drop it will freeze and crash RadioDJ

A local database is the best way to go its going to be much more reliable and stable.

You can still connect to the server on your PC from your website for stuff like Now playing/requests etc...

Q: Can I stream news or podcasts in RadioDJ

A: Yes its possible to stream a podcast or news service in RadioDJ.

N.B: Please bear in mind in order to stream that content you will need either:

A) Permission from the author/owner of that podcast
B) Permission from the news service you wish to stream (Most news services charge)

This is just a friendly reminder that not everything can be played through RadioDJ unless you have the permission to do so.

If you stream news/podcasts illegally and get taken to court then you have no one to blame but yourself.
