Number of songs in cue....

I have 20 positions built into my default rotation and have inserted "tracks from requests" in the locations that I would like them to be played, but if the entire default rotation loads, then the request is only able to go to the top or bottom of the playlist.

Can I limit the number of songs in my cue without having to have a shorter default rotation?

To be honest I don't understand why the requests are only on top or bottom. There are many ways to play request such as with events. Even without events I still don't understand the problem as you can put request anywhere in the rotation.

As for loading less than a full rotation I believe that is not possible at the moment.

I appreciate the response and have found a work around by looking at the problem a little differently.

But I have discovered another issue with instant requests and adding an overlay sweeper to it I can't seem to understand.

On my screenshot I have two highlighted areas. Box 1 and Box 2

Box 2 is used to assign which sweeps are played with an instant request, but I have found that box 1 also affects the selection of the sweeper that plays with the instant request and it defaults to another category if the system is restarted. The categories in Box 1 are alphabetical and it never defaults to my "Request" category. I tried renaming them by adding 01-, 02-, 03- etc, but it ignored the numeric attempt.?!?!

So if my system does a weekly reboot my instant requests sweepers will not be engaged correctly.

I would like some clarification of why Box 1 affects Box 2 and is there a way around this, or am I just doing it wrong?

Question: Why is your system automatically restarting once a week?

There is no need to restart a system every week, Plus RadioDJ can be left alone to automate for weeks...

Months even :D ( 4 editions of RadioDJ running 24/7 on only one PC as silence detection and non-stop playoud at a local radiostation. Longest time running was allmost 234 days without restart )
Running 3 editions V1.8.2 at www.salto.nl and v1.8.2 at radio251.nl. ( NOW with 2 live studio's! )

It's called "SAMitis"...Precautionary settings.

But I have found that every automation requires gentle reboots from time to time. Maestro, Arrakis, Scott...you name it..

My question is why does RadioDJ not restart in the position it left off in and why does Box 1 affect Box 2?

You can set the sweepers in the event so when the next event starts, it can set the sweepers. To be honest, don't restart at all, at least not automatically.

I do not understand the need for an event for on demand requests? How do I schedule an event for random requests? Why would I do that? I have requests built into my rotation manager to insert them already.

An Event can also only set a thing without interfering with the playout. This way when you make an event with only the line "set sweepers to slow/mid" this is the only thing that will happen. If you allready use an event when starting some rotation or request hour, you can set it in that event.

OIC... This would also help mitigate the potential for request stacking and allow for delaying them.

Thanks.

Don't take my word for this. I don't use sweepers or requests so I don't know exactly. I was just speculating.
In addition There was no talk about any sweepers in your original post.

Having read your post another 5 times or so I finally understand what the problem is (kinda).

So if you want to play your requests as they come you have to enable "Auto add to playlist" in the "Online request" window.
Otherwise you can add requests in the rotation. Of course if there is no request at the time of the loading of the rotation those entries will be skipped.

I was wrong about events.

But for example you can make something messy like:
Periodically clear the playlist (or change the rotation) in order to "reset" and "look again for new requests".

I believe there is also a way to disable the request from loading automatically at set times if you go for the "auto loading".

Hope this can help you. If not I suggest you explain what you need and what are the obstacles in more detail.
Every one does things differently and we have different needs.

Thanks, appreciate your time.

What RDJ needs is a way to control number of songs in cue that is not dependent of track rotation clock. Seems like a simple fix. This way we could build any length of entries in the rotation manager but only load X at a time in cue allowing for requests to be moderated simultaneously.
